Food tip of the week: Avocados

Sometimes is hard to find avocados that are “just right”. I usually have to wait a few days until they soften.

If you bought a bunch of avocados but don’t want them to soften all at once, put the ones you want to ripen next to bananas – bananas emit a gas called ethylene which makes avocados ripen quickly. If you want them to ripen even faster, put them in a paper bag together with bananas.

Keep the other avocados away from the bananas, on a different kitchen counter, for example. (You might have noticed that grocery stores put bananas separately from other fruit so that the other fruit won’t spoil quickly).
