Movie Review: The Hero of Color City

Standard

photo02Although Fall is one of the best times to go see movies in the theater, there seems to be a shortage of kid-friendly movies right now. I’m talking about G-rated, wholesome movies that you can take a toddler to and not worry about violence or inappropriate content. When I received an invitation from The MOMS to attend a screening of The Hero of Color City I was excited – I had no idea a toddler-friendly movie was coming out and I was really looking forward to seeing it with my kids. BOB MARLEY's THREE LITTLE BIRDS 01_LtoR_Tara Yates-Reeves, Jobari Parker-Namdar, David Little and Ayanna Hardy (c)Michael HoranRaising kids in New York has its advantages; for example, exposing them to so many different cultures, whether it’s through food, the arts, or simply strolling along any given street. Although I like listening to reggae once in a while it’s not music we typically play at home so my kids haven’t gotten a chance to hear it. I recently took my kids to Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds at the New Victory Theater and was delighted to see them appreciate music that’s slightly different from what they’re used to. Photographer: Alexis Buatti-RamosOn most occasions, music and dance go together well. Don’t Miss: Peter Pan at the New Victory Theater

Standard

BELVOIR_PeterPan 03_Geraldine Hakewill (c) Brett BoardmanI don’t think I know a single person who doesn’t love the story of Peter Pan and his adventures in Neverland. The Disney movie is one of my personal favorites of the Disney films so I was excited to take my daughter to a performance at the New Victory Theater this past weekend. My daughter has read the story that’s based on the Disney movie so she was familiar with it and I was curious to see this adaptation by the Belvoir Theater which hails from Sydney Australia. The Belvoir is considered one of Australia’s most innovative and acclaimed theater companies (Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush have performed there). Australians do things a little differently so I was looking forward to seeing this interpretation of the classic story. Read the rest of this entry

nycosmos_logoWe started with soccer classes this summer for our 4-year-old and now he’s hooked! He’s obsessed with anything soccer and loves watching it on TV. We thought it would be fun to take him to an actual live game. Turns out The New York Cosmos, a professional soccer team that play in the North American Soccer League (NASL) have very affordable tickets to their games. We recently went to a home game in Long Island and enjoyed the festive atmosphere you can only find at a soccer game! Read the rest of this entry
